Daniel nervously headed down to the outdoor ring for his first ever lesson. He swallowed the lump that was forming in his throat and tried not to look too afraid. He saw Gena already in the ring and walked towards her. He gave her a shy smile as he arrived, and then shifted his gaze to Blueberry, the horse he was going to be riding. He gave the gelding a gentle pat on the nose and turned to Gena. "Hi," he said to her, glad his voice didn't waver and betray how nervous he was.

Gena smiled and nodded to the block, "Hey, let's get you up there. Blueberry is very nice." She brought the gelding the the mounting block.

Daniel nodded, walking over to the mounting block. He stepped up onto it and fiddled with the strap on his helmet, still a little nervous. He trusted Gena telling him that Blueberry was nice. He looked at the horse and felt comforted a little, knowing that Blueberry was one of the older horses here. He smiled nervously to Gena.

"Now put your foot in that stirrup and swing your other leg over." Gena stroked Blueberry softly.
(Is he in an english or western saddle?)

(We'll go western just for lolz! haha)
Daniel nodded to Gena, and thought for a second as to which foot he'd have to put in. He stuck his foot into the stirrup, and stood there hopelessly for a second before he reached forward and grabbed onto the front of Blueberry's saddle for a little more support. It was different to most of the saddles he'd seen; this one had a big pointy thing on the front. He dismissed it and hopped on his other leg a couple of times, before awkwardly swinging up onto Blueberry's back. He tried to lower himself gently into the saddle but plonked down instead. He grabbed onto the pointy thing at the front with both hands as he looked down to try and poke his free foot into the stirrup. When he'd finally accomplished that, he looked shyly up at Gena and carefully unwound a hand from the front of the saddle, gently stroking Blueberry's neck.

Gena held back a laugh for a bit but released it after a while. "Very good Daniel." She adjusted the stirrups and smiled, "Okay do you know how to steer?" She went through how to turn, stop, and go. "Now lets see you walk around the ring for a couple of laps."

Daniel gave a tentative smile, sensing that Gena was doing her best not to laugh outright at him. He supposed he did look kinda funny. He shook his head at her question, and listened attentively as she explained how to walk forwards, turn and then stop Blueberry. "Um, okay," he said, when Gena told him to go for a couple of laps. Swallowing hard, he picked up the reins and tried his best to hold them as Gena had instructed. Gritting his teeth, Daniel gently pressed his legs into Blueberry's sides. The gelding stood patiently, not moving. Daniel pressed a little harder, and lurched forwards a little as the horse moved forward under him. "Whoa," Daniel stammered in surprise, grabbing the horn of the saddle for support. Blueberry obediently stopped, although that hadn't been Daniel's intentions. Sighing, Daniel pressed his legs to the horse's sides again, this time ready for Blueberry to walk forward. He focused his eyes on the side of the ring and pulled the reins to one side, trying to steer Blueberry where he wanted to go. The gelding flicked his ears in confusion, but walked over to the edge of the ring. Pulling the left rein, Daniel managed to turn Blueberry around to the side, wobbling dangerously in the saddle. He hunched forward, nervously, and tried to keep his eyes where he wanted to go like he'd been told. Blueberry plodded around the ring almost of his own accord, which Daniel was glad of. He swayed a bit but tried to keep still, occasionally grabbing the saddle so he didn't tip right off. After three laps around the ring, Daniel pulled on the rein closest to where Gena was, steering Blueberry in a wonky line back to her. He leaned back and pulled on the reins to stop Blueberry, which succeeded although Daniel had the feeling it was more the horse's training than his riding. He let out a breath he hadn't been aware he was holding, and shakily tried to relax his tense muscles.

Gena smiled while she watched the boy figure out the movements of a horse. "Try pushing down those heels and that should position you better to balance. You are doing really well! Try switching directions and sitting straight in the saddle."
(Sorry not much time to make a long post with homework. Nice post though!)

(hehe that's okay I should probably be doing homework too to be honest hahaa) Daniel nodded, and looked down at his feet, trying to push his heels down more. It felt odd, but he supposed Gena knew what she was talking about. He sat up straighter in the saddle and felt like he was going to wobble right off, but managed to stay tall. He took a deep breath, and pushed his legs into Blueberry's sides again, this time pulling the horse around and walking in the other direction. Almost immediately Daniel felt himself hunch down, so he focused on trying to sit up straight. He felt a little nervous doing it, but after Blueberry had walked a few more paces he realised that he was better balanced. Wiggling his feet around, Daniel also tried to make his heels go down more. He couldn't really manage it without looking down, so he ignored it for a while, hoping that what he'd managed would do. Blueberry suddenly snorted, pulling Daniel forward and yanking the reins through his fingers. Daniel leaned back immediately, still gripping the reins. His heart hammered in his chest, and as they walked a little more around the arena Daniel found himself holding onto the front of the saddle again.
