Katie Bow
I had just finished tacking up and grooming and was still in my casual clothes. My bridle was sparkling clean with a very posh brow band and my saddle was also sparkling clean. I had just one more thing to do before getting changed. Put a quarter mark on. I grabbed my stencil and brushed back the hair on Star. Star twitched slightly then relaxed and didn't mind. I finished getting her ready and stood back to admire my work from top to bottom then I realized that I hadn't put hoof oil on. I immediately grabbed the oil and the brush and flicked over the hoofs thoroughly making sure I didn't miss a spot. I finished using the hoof oil and then put it away carefully and cleared up my stuff. I put all my things away in the horse box and made sure Star was tied up properly and then went inside to change.
I got my white shirt, tie, navy blue show jacket, cream jodhpurs, riding boots and hair things. I pulled all my clothes on and button up the top button on my shirt and did my tie neatly then pulled the jacket carefully over the top. I neatened the jacket up and did it up smiling, I was so excited for the show. I then made sure everything was right, pulled my boots on and started on my hair. I pulled all my hair back into a pony tail with my hair brush and tied it with a hair band. I then circled it into a neat bun pinned it in and got a small net and circled round it then secured it with grips. I then made sure it was secure and pulled the big net over all my hair making sure not a single strand was hanging out. I then slid my hat on and looked in the mirror and grinned.
I was ready to go and warm up, I stepped outside the horse box and shut it up and went to Star and patted her. "This is it girl!" I whispered into her near excitedly, Star twitched her ears back and forth and then she nickered softly, I smiled and mounted up carefully. I rode Star over to the warm up ring and started to walk round. I then pushed forward into a trot and was being very aware of the other people around me. I trotted her round and had some little canters and then started going over the warm up fences keeping watch of other people. I took the first one at a neat canter and Star went over it easily. I circled her round at a canter and took the other fence and did this a couple of times different ways at different angles. I then stopped and went over to the ring I was meant to be at for my show and waited outside the ring with the other riders and their horses. I was waiting a bit nervously and waiting for my name to be called knowing I was first.

Katie
I was looking around the show ground when I heard my name being called, I took a deep breath. I had butterflies in my stomach, but more of excitement then nerves. I gathered Star smiling and got her going forward into a trot, I went through the gates and took the track round the left waiting for the bell. As I circled I passed the judges and I smiled politely to them and they smiled back happily. I was glad about this, it sort of proved that they were nice judges not stingy horrible ones.
The bell rung and I focused on the course now. I picked up a canter and went round the ring heading for the start. I went through the gates and soon came to the first jump, a simple 4ft wall and a nice starter for Star. We had a good take off and cleared the wall easily. I was pleased with that and knew that the wall was simple for Star. I turned for the next jump approaching I kept nice and straight. The jump was a 4 foot 6 plank and there was nothing scary about it. Star flew the jump simply. Knowing that the next jump was up the long side I stretched Star stride out and let her go into a slow in control gallop. We approached the jump and I have a little half halt on the reigns to make sure Star was still listening, she was. I set her up for the jump and she bounded over the jump nicely. I knew the next jump, Star didn't particularly like it, it was a fan. I knew she'd go over with my confidence though.
Before I knew it I was at the fan jump and as I approached I pushed my leg on and I felt Star go forward and she flew over the jump like it was a huge wall. I smiled at this fact but concentrated on the next jump of the course now. I headed for the next jump, which was quite soon, I set Star up and she lept over the jump nicely. The next jump was quite challenging and I decided to take it faster. I pushed Star on into a gallop, not to fast though. As I approached the jump it looked quite intimidating and I felt Star hesitate but I urged her forward and she flew over the jump perfectly. I swung round the corner and came to the bounce almost immediately, I was prepared though. I gathered up more and put my leg on and Star bounced over the jumps nicely, We worked well together.
I knew there were only a couple of jumps left, I had gone clear so far. 'It just couldn't go wrong now!' I thought to myself and became completely focused. The next jump came quickly as Star was going at speed. This jump was challenging and I approached and set Star up well, we had a nice take of and landing and cleared the jump simply. The last jump, and the very hardest, A water jump! I controlled Star down and came to the jump and came up straight and flew over the jump listening and hoping I wouldn't hear a knock down. We landed and I'd gone clear! I slowed down to a walk and patted and praised Star as I walked out of the ring so so so so happily.
