It was my first day and I couldn't wait to see the horse my parents bought me. I could already picture us riding down peaceful trails and runnin' round the barrels. My best friend's favorite sayin' was "3 Barrels, 2 Hearts, and 1 Dream". But that was before the accident. Don't think about it, I told my self as I felt tears prick the corners of my eyes and looked down. Its supposed to be a happy day. when I looked back up i saw the most beautiful and elegant lookin' Quarter Horse I ever did see. I walk over and rubbed it's neck while I read the sign on the gate. It read " Kentucky Sun - Rebecca Wallace "!! I douldn't believe it! My parents said I would love the horse they picked but I wasn't quite sure back then! " Hey Sunny, nice to meet yah! I'm your new owner Rebecca! " I told the mare as I gave her a cookie. I went into the tack room and grabbed my western saddle, my favorite sky blue saddle blanket, my bridle, and laid them on the gate. Then I groomed her a little. It didnt take long because you could tell that they already groomed her that morning. I laid the blanket on her back and then put on the saddle. I tightened it about half way, before I poked her stomach. I laughed to myself as i saw her stomach go back to normal. " Testin' me huh, girl? Good luck with that. I'm pretty hard to trick. " I said as I finished fixin' the saddle. Finally I grabbed the bridle and put the bit in her mouth after a few seconds of trying to get her to accept it. "Good girl! " I said as I pat her after I finally finished adjusting the bridle. I grabbed both reins and opened the gate. I walked her over to the outdoor arena and mounted after I opened the gate. I kicked her softly and smiled as she started walking. I closed the gate behind us as we went in. Her ears pricked a little at the sound of the squeaky gate but other than that she was great. " Guess you really were a ranch horse " i told her as I halted and dismouted. I got the barrels and put them in the barrel order. I heard a high pitched whinny and looked up to see the sorrel mare giving me all her attention, standing as still as a statue. " You like runnin' barrels don't yah, girl?" I said as I walked over and mounted. As soon as my butt touched the seat, she started at a fast trot toward the barrels. "Whoa!" I said as I pulled back on the reins. "Not yet." I said as she stopped and grunted. I moved her into a trot and went around the edge of the fence. Everytime she started to speed up, I slowed her down more than before. After she started listening i told her to canter. "Good girl!" I said as she stayed at a nice calm canter. I then started cantering in large circles. Then I told her to trot in large circles that i made her make smaller and smaller. I halted her after I thought she was good and loose. She was in great shape. The work out barely winded her. As I started cantering her toward the barrels, she understood what we were about to do and poured on the speed. Thats more like it! I thought to myself as she went around the first barrel perfectly. Then the second, and the third one after that. She was perfect! If I had only found her earlier!! I thought to myself. After a few more runs, I decided to go back to the barn. I dismounted and put the barrels back where I got them. "Good girl! You were great!" I said to her as I grabbed her reins and left the arena. I put up her tack as I let her eat and drink. Then I brought her over to a wash stall to cool her down. After I brought her back to her stall I gave her a mash that was mixed with honey and bananas. "There you go. You deserve it." I said as I gave it to her. " Bye girl, I'll see you tomorrow." I said as I left the barn.
