Cassie led her stunning black stallion, Dante's Inferno, into the outdoor ring. It was a hot, sunny day, and she wore grey jean-jodphers, a purple halter neck top and of course, her black riding boots. Her white-blonde hair was in two loose plaits. She shut the gate behind her and stood next to her 16 hh horse, fastening her Champion riding hat. She rolled her stirrups down and double checked the girth. She placed her left foot into the stirrup, and swung herself up onto his back. Dante immediatly tried to shoot foward, bue Cassie steadied him and asked him to walk on, giving him a long rein.

Sara was riding past the outdoor ring on her thoroughbred gelding when he shied suddenly. She grabbed his wither to steady herself since she was riding bareback. "Easy boy," she muttered, looking around to see what had spooked her horse. She rolled her eyes when she saw that it was someone riding in the ring. "You silly old coot," Sara said to Desert, rubbing him comfortingly on the neck. She urged him over to the fence and smiled as she recognised Cassie and Dante. "Hey!" she greeted them cheerfully. "Want some company?"

Cassie looked over in surprise when she heard some noise from outsde the ring. She relaxed, seeing Sara and her horse. "Yeah, sure, come in!" she grinned. She urged Dante on into his smooth trot. He tossed his head excitedly when he noticed the other horse. Cassie laughed "Silly boy!"

Sara grinned and walked Desert to the gate. She leaned down from his back and reached for the latch. For once she could actually reach it without jumping off, so she swung the gate open and guided Desert through. Once the gate was firmly shut behind them, she closed her legs around Desert's barrel and urged him into a trot. He pinned his ears at Dante briefly, then lost his energy and began to dawdle. Sara clucked to him and tightened her legs, riding him forward. "God, his back is so bony!" Sara complained with a laugh, adjusting her seat as she trotted around the ring.

Cassie giggled at Sara trotting around bareback, complaining that Desert had a bony back. Cassie changed the rein with Dante. Her horse whinnied to Desert, shaking his head. She asked Dante to go on the bit. At first, he tossed his head, but when she asked again he did it without a second thought. "Good boy!" she praised him. She urged him on into a steady canter, although he immediatly tried to race of. Cassie leant back in her seat and he steadied, still on the bit.

Sara smiled as she watched Cassie and Dante. Desert nickered back when Dante whinnied to him, and Sara laughed. She grinned in admiration when Dante went on the bit. "He looks so perfect!" she gushed. Desert whipped his head, and she smiled. "You know you're my special boy," she whispered to him. She followed Cassie's lead, and pushed Desert into a canter, holding a handful of his mane as he made the transition. As usual, Desert struck out on the wrong lead, so Sara pulled him back to a trot and asked again. This time, he got it right. "If only you knew flying changes," she said ruefully. She watched Cassie and Dante cantering. Dante looked absolutely stunning cantering on the bit.

"Thanks." Cassie grinned over at Sara as she cantered smoothly round the ring. She knew Dante looked amazing. She'd pretty much broken him in herself. He went how she liked it. "You having fun bareback, Sara?" she said, grinning at her. She cantered a figure of eight asking Dante to do a lead change in the middle. When he didn't she brought him back to a trot and asked for him for canter on the other leg. He obeyed, and she patted his neck.

Sara laughed at Cassie. "Of course I am," she said with a grin. "I'm so short that I can hardly ever be bothered trying to tack up this giant,so I ride bareback a lot." she laughed and gave Desert a pat, pulling him back to a trot as a small praise for going so well. Desert stumbled as they were trotting, and Sara sighed. "You okay, you big klutz?" she murmured to him. He kept trotting fine, so Sara let him continue. It wasn't exactly an odd thing for Desert to trip at least a few times each ride. He was pretty uncoordinated. "Have you ever done dressage with Dante?" Sara asked Cassie. They looked like they would be perfect for the dressage ring. Dante carried himself beautifully. Sara urged Desert into a canter again after turning a half circle to change the rein. He snorted and bounced right into it. Sara let her hands move with Desert's neck, allowing him to have his head as he cantered.

Cassie smiled, watching Sara's perfect bareback canter. "I have done dressage with Dante, but neither of us really enjoy it. Like, we can do stuff, but we'd rather be jumping. Do you jump a lot?" She looked at Sara and Desert bareback. She cocked her head to the side and said, "Y'know what? I might ride bareback for a bit." she grinned and dismounted, leading Dante over to the sside of the ring. There, she removed his saddle and martinggale, and put them on the bar of the fence. She looked at her 16 hh horse. "Stand, Dante." her horse looked at her, but stood there. Voice commands was one of his strong points. She walked back a few steps and then looked at Sara. "I haven't done this in ages!" she said, laughing. She looked at Dante repeating the command, then ran straight at him, grabbed his mane and managed to pull half of her body onto his back. "argh!" she yelped, as she scrambled up onto him properly. She pushed her hair back. "Phew!" she exclaimed.

Sara nodded. "Yeah, dressage is a tad too strict for me," she said. She nodded enthusiastically at Cassie's question. "I love jumping!" she exclaimed. "Desert's kinda unco, but when he tries he can jump epically!" she smiled down at her horse who was still cantering smoothly under her. She grinned when Cassie decided to go bareback. "Awesome!" Sara laughed, leaning back slightly to slow Desert. "Woo, boy," she told him. He dropped back into a trot, then slowed to a walk. "Good boy," Sara praised him, with a rub on his shoulder. She exhaled deeply and let all her body weight sink to her seat, and Desert halted. Sara grinned, then turned to watch Cassie while she untacked Dante. "How tall is he?" she asked curiously as she watched Cassie vault onto him. She guessed he was at least 16 hands. She laughed as Cassie finally managed to scramble onto him. "And we have a winner," she laughed, faking a round of applause. "Walk on," she told Desert, and he grudgingly obliged, plodding lazily around the ring.

Cassie pushed Dante on using her seat, and he obeyed. "The beast is 16 hands!" she said, patting Dante's neck. "Have you ever jumped bareback?" she asked Sara, pushing Dante on into his smooth trot. She sat it perfectly.

Sara grinned, "Yeah I thought he might be around that," she laughed. She nodded and grimaced at Cassie's question. "Yeah, I have. And on Desert, it hurts like hell," she grinned. "It's all fun though," she added as an afterthought. "Have you?" she asked. Dante looked like he would be perfectly smooth to jump bareback, unlike Desert's bouncy landings.
(Dudeee...I jumped the real Desert bareback once....OUCHHH :L His first ever straight bar...and he flipped out over it and I landed right on his wither :S )

"Yeah... I love jumping bareback. I know what you mean, some horses are so bony! We should put a cross up and jump bareback a bit, if you like?" she grinned, pushing D on into his collected canter.
(OMG ikr, I excercise quite a lot of the lesson horses at my yard and some of them kill to ride bareback! but Blaze is a fatty and he doesnt hurt :L)

Sara nodded, excited. "Yeah, we should!" she agreed enthusiastically. She loved jumping, and even though Desert wasn't great at it, he loved it too. "How high you wanna go?" Sara asked, trotting Desert over to the edge of the ring where a few jump poles were laying. She slid off her gelding and grabbed a couple of the poles, dragging them into the centre of the ring. Desert walked along behind her, happy to have a short break. Sara dumped the poles on the ground and looked up at Cassie, waiting for her answer.

"Start of small, yeah?" she asked, looking at Sara. "We can take it in turns to get off and change them." she grinned, excited. She asked Dante to stand watching Sara.

Sara laughed and nodded. "Okay then, we'll start with an ickle one," she said with a grin. She grabbed a couple of milk crates that were at the edge of the ring and propped up the poles on them, making a small cross jump. "That'll do for the first one," she said. She turned around and told Desert to stand, then vaulted onto him, using a lock of his mane to pull herself up. "Magical," she declared, turning Desert in a circle so she was facing Cassie again. "You wanna go first?" she asked.

"Cool." Cassie said, looking at the jump and nodding. She felt a thrill of excitement as she turned Dante towards the jump. She pushed him on into his smooth jumping canter, and got into her perfect (or as perfect as it could get bareback) two-point. On a spur of the moment decision, she dropped her reins and held her arms out straight over the jump. She landed and collected her reins, grinned at Sara and said "Your go!".

Sara turned and watched as Cassie and Dante took the jump perfectly. "Nice touch," Sara laughed. She smiled down at her gelding. "Let's do this, lazy-bones," she said, pushing him into a walk, then a trot and finally into canter. Sara turned and winked at Cassie as Desert cantered towards the jump, then looked at the small cross. She made sure Desert was cantering right towards it then she too dropped her reins, and then covered her eyes. "Up!" she said to Desert as she felt him collecting under her. She leaned forward over his neck as she felt him bounce over the cross. She removed her hands and guided desert back around with her legs, grinning. "Top that," she said to Cassie with a laugh. She gave Desert a rub on the shoulder, then leaned down and hugged his neck.

Cassie laughed at Sara. "Ok, I will!" she grinned at Sara, then turned on Dante so she was sitting backwards. She asked him to canter and they headed towards the jump, Cassie completely confident that Dante would jump it. He did, smoothly. Cassie turned back round on Dante's back. Dante was used to her doing stupid things, she always had back home with her friends. "Hey, Sara. Y'know what's fun? Bounces, bareback!" she said, patting Dante. She lay flat out on his back, arms round his neck.

Sara grinned and then laughed. "I was gonna do that next!" She said, shaking her fist in mock anger. She nodded in agreement. "Yes! Give me one more jump, then we'll set up bounces!" She grinned and then turned Desert towards the jump, but decided she would get him going in a nice forward canter first. She made him circle the ring twice, then quickly pushed herself up onto her knees, and then onto her feet, until she was standing on Desert's back. She held her reins at the buckle, and turned Desert towards the jump, keeping her knees bent to help with her balance. "Okay, boy," she said quietly. As Desert cantered towards the jump, Sara crouched a bit lower, then as he jumped she bent her knees even more. They cleared the jump and Sara turned to grin at Cassie, but Desert shied after he landed and she slipped. She managed to land on Desert's back still, wincing as she landed on his wither. "Owww...." she said slowly, before laughing at herself. She collected her reins and trotted Desert over to Cassie and Dante, still laughing. "I meant to do that!" she laughed, rubbing her butt. "Bounces, here we come," she added after a moment's pause.

"Sure you were!" said Cassie, giggling. "'Kay, I'll do them." She got of Dante and he followed her over to where the jumps were. She got some poles and some more milk crates, and set two bounces up, measuring the striding. She nodded to Sara. "You wanna do these two or shall i put more?"

Sara laughed and watched as Cassie set up the bounces. "It's up to you," she said. "I'm game for more if you want them." Sara was used to bounces, so she didn't really care how many there were. Desert tossed his head and pricked his ears towards Cassie and the jumps. "Yes, spastic. You're doing more jumping," Sara laughed to him, turning his head towards her with one rein and then leaning forward and kissing his muzzle. Desert snorted and pulled his head away again, and Sara poked her tongue out at him.

Sara nodded and laughed. "Why thank you,"she laughed. She pushed Desert into a trot and circled in front of the bounces, then pushed him into a canter and aimed him for them. She leaned forward in time with each of his jumps, and he cleared them all perfectly. Sara circled at the other end, then came back and did them again, this time with no hands. She leaned back as Desert landed after the final bounce, then picked up her reins and slowed him back to a trot, then a walk. "Fun fun," she laughed to Cassie.

Sara grinned when Cassie completed the bounces too. "Wanna go a bit higher?" she asked. She was excited to see what they could end up doing. "I wanna beat my bareback record eventually," she said. "The highest I've jumped bareback is 3 foot." Sara rubbed Desert's shoulder, faithful that her gelding could jump that high.

Sara smiled and slip off Desert, making sure he was following before she started walking away. She knew he could be a bit of a bully to other horses sometimes. She adjusted the cross that they'd jumped originally, stacking two crates on top of each other and making it into a straight. "Hm," Sara said, standing back to admire her handiwork. "It'll do," she laughed, spacing out the bounces a tiny bit more so the horses could get a good stride before taking the straight. "Good enough for you?" she called to Cassie, standing by in case she wanted the jump changed.

Taylor walked out of the stable, originally headed to the pasture to get her mare and foal, but she stopped when she saw Cassie and her horse Dante in the outdoor ring. "Hey, Cassie!" she called, jogging into the ring.
