Bree waited nervously outside the ring. She was riding first up! Cookie was at ease under her, and Bree smiled at her mare. When the announcer told her she could start, Bree urged Cookie into a walk and entered the ring. She pushed the mare from a walk into a canter, and circled around in front of the judges, like she'd been told to do. She had the course memorised in her head, and she looked for the first fence. Cookie whinnied in excitment, and Bree felt her heart start beating rapidly. Still cantering, Bree rode past a couple of jumps and circled around to take the first jump. Cookie pricked her ears and started to rush, but Bree held her steady, sitting deep. "Okay," she whispered, cantering to the first jump. Cookie leaped over it and Bree flew into her two-point position, remembering to make sure her heels were down and to look for her next jump. Cookie landed smoothly and Bree rode her in a straight line, up to the front of the ring. She turned Cookie in a half circle to take the second jump, clearing that smoothly too. Cookie sped up towards the next jump, which was almost a direct line from the one they'd just cleared. "Easy girl," Bree told her, half-halting to steady Cookie. As they took the third jump, Cookie flicked out her hind legs, giving an excited buck as they landed. Bree was ready for the mare's usual antics and managed to stay steady in her seat, turning Cookie to the left. Bree moved her legs almost imperceptibly behind the girth and Cookie did a flying change without breaking stride. Bree was happy that her dressage knowledge had helped her in the jumping ring too. Riding for the next jump, Bree turned Cookie and stared past the jump, giving the mare her head as they soared over it. Bree heard the dreaded sound of a hoof clipping the pole, but she didn't, couldn't turn around to see if it had fallen. So far all of the jumps had just been singles, but their next one was a double. Bree took a deep breath and let Cookie pick her own stride, cantering to their fifth fence. Bree reached her hands forwards along the mare's neck, standing up out of the saddle slightly and leaning forward. She kept her heels balanced, the solid iron of the stirrup comforting against the ball of Bree's feet. Cookie grunted as she landed and kept cantering. Bree settled back into the saddle, giving a small tug on her outside rein to slow her over-excited horse. Cookie tossed her head, struggling for control of the bit, but Bree didn't give in. Cantering strongly as if to prove a point, Cookie charged for their sixth jump and flew over it, barely giving Bree any time to go into her two-point. Bree frowned and settled her weight more firmly on the landing, forcing Cookie to slow down. They took the next jump more calm, and Bree risked a glance to the left and noticed with a havey heart that they had knocked the pole off on their fourth jump. It only made Bree more determined to finish well, so she turned Cookie to the right, did another flying change so they were on the right lead, and rode confidently for the second last fence. Approaching it, Bree tapped Cookie smartly on the shoulder with her crop, and the mare jumped seamlessly. Bree smiled and then looked up and over their ninth and final fence. "Alright," she said. She kept her legs on Cookie, and they flew up and over the last jump, Bree in her two-point position and Cookie jumping with her legs perfectly tucked. They landed smoothly and Bree grinned. "Good girl," she said, leaning down to rub Cookie's neck as they cantered another circle in front of the judges to finish their class. Bree wasn't sure how many points had been lost for knocking down a jump, but she realised she didn't really care. Every other show she'd been in, Bree had ridden to win. Now, she was having fun, and she couldn't wipe the smile off her face. Bringing Cookie down to a trot, they rode out of the ring, and Bree rubbed Cookie's neck and shoulder proudly. The mare nickered, blowing tiredly from her nostrils. Bree smiled. "Good girl, Cookie," she said proudly. She turned outside the ring and waited for the rest of the class to ride.

Mokie walked in with her gelding, Blazing Comet when her name was announced. Raising up her chin, she waved to the crowd with a smirk. Of course she would win this! She won everything! The girl walked around the ring as she remembered her instructer telling her that she wasn't ready. It was soooo stupid because she knew her instructer was just jelous of her. Picking up a trot, she wobbled in the saddle and posted high into the air. Asking for a canter with a large kick, she headed towards the first fence. Popping over it, she landed hard on Comet's neck but soon recovered. Still smirking, she rounded at the second fence and cut her corner causing the pole to come crashing down. With an angry yank, she tugged the reins and hit her gelding in the mouth. "Stupid horse!" She yelled and managed to make it over the next fence in time. Continuing through the hunter class, she soon came at her last fence. With a hard kick to Comet's sides, he reared into the air at the last second sending Mokie flying over his head and onto the ground on the opposite side of the jump. Tears sprang into her eyes and she stood up quickly. Running at her horse, she raised the crop to smack him with it when Molly rushed over and grabbed her by the waist pulling her backwards. Dragging her out, Mokie kicked and screamed. Somebody from the crowd walked over to Comet and took his reins leading him back to the stables. He would definently be sneaked some treats when Mokie wasn't watching later.
