Daniel held the lunge whip in one hand, and a treat for Tag in the other. His filly was frolicking around the ring, occasionally running towards Daniel, other times running away. She bucked playfully, whinnying shrilly. Daniel smiled, and tried to replicate what he'd learned from Molly. He kept Tag moving around the ring by keeping the whip behind her, tapping the ground near her back feet when she slowed. Tagalong pranced around the ring, her head and tail held high, ears pricked and eyes sparkling mischeviously. Daniel laughed at his silly horse. "Come on, princess," he murmured to her, flicking the whip softly behind her. The antsy two year old flicked out her feels and then cantered around the ring, her head bent inwards, regarding Daniel with soft eyes. She carried herself regally, looking absolutely gorgeous. Daniel couldn't believe that such a beautiful creature belonged to him. He moved the whip in front of Tag, causing her to skid to a stop.
Dropping the whip, Daniel made a smooching noise and Tag trotted into the centre of the ring, shoving her muzzle against his chest. Daniel laughed and kissed her soft forehead. "Here, my baby," he said to her quietly, offering the piece of apple he held in his hand. Tag stared at it distatefully, and Daniel laughed. "I know, I know. This one's for me," he laughed, popping the apple into his mouth. Tag cocked her head, looking almost dog-like, and Daniel nearly choked with laughter. She snorted and glared at him, tossing her forelock. "You haven't changed at all, not since the day you were born," Daniel laughed to her, digging a piece of oat-cake out of his pocket. It was crushed and crumbled, but Tag lipped it up greedily. Daniel rolled his eyes, gave her a pat on the neck, and walked away from her. He smiled as he felt the familiar huff of Tag's breath on his neck. When he turned to face her, Tag regarded him with an expression of pure astonishment.
'And where do you think you're going?' it seemed to say.
Daniel spluttered with laughter, and his filly startled, backing away. She rose slowly, gracefully, in a rear, her body suspended. Daniel ducked down and then ran, laughing.
Tag dropped to all four feet and tossed her head joyfully, giving chase. Daniel laughed, and headed back the other way, occasionally flicking Tag with his hands or poking her when she wasn't looking. They played like little kids, chasing and gently nipping each other, but never hurting. Tag nickered softly and walked up to Daniel, draping her head over his shoulder and sighing. Daniel smiled and rested his cheek against her warm neck, relishing in the smell of his amazing horse. "I love you, girl," he murmured to her, wrapping his arms around her neck.
