Cassie felt her heart race as the trailer pulled into the yard. It came to a stop, and she was quick to open the bolts and make sure everything was ready to unload her boy. She slipped into the front of the trailer, hearing Dante's hooves stomping impatiently against the ground. He snorted, his nostril flared, as he looked at Cassie. "Hello there, my sweet boy." She reached out and stroked his nose, feeling him relax a bit already. "We'll have you out of here and settled in no time, don't you worry, pretty boy." she crooned to him, as she unfastened the lead rope and stood in front of him. Dante sensed what was going on and tossed his head in excitement. Cassie bagan to slowly back Dante out of the trailer, all the while encouraging him and praising him. When they stood on the concrete yard, Dante whipped his head and whinnied, lifting his front feet of the ground. Cassie rubbed his neck and murmured to him. Dante pranced on the spot, looking at his new surroundings constantly. His black coat gleamed in the sunlight, and his handsome head and neck made him look almost majestic.
The trailer driver began unloading all of Cassie's stuff: tack, haynets, boots, bandages, rugs... saying he'd leave them outside the tack room. She payed him, said thanks and pointed in the direction of the tack room. She turned towards the prancing Dante and clicked with her tongue. He immediatly walked on, whipping his head around and snorting. Cassie laughed, giddy at being with her horse again, and relieved that he was here safe and sound. The pair walked down row after row of horses in stalls. Dante whinnied and tried to smell the mares, making Cassie laugh. "You big flirt!" she said, putting a hand on his neck. Once they got to Dante's new stall, a large, airy stall with straw on the ground, Cassie led him in quietly, shutting the door behind her. She slipped his halter off, and let him rub on her back. "Listen, big boy, you need to behave here and be nice! This is a great place and it's gonna be your home for a while, hopefully." Dante looked at her expectantly. She giggled and gave him a piece of carrot, which he chomped happily, throwing his head around. A horse whinnied in a nearby stall and Dante whinnied back, pawing with his front leg. She rolled her eyes at him and let herself out of his stall, saying she'd be back in a minute.
She rushed to put her tack and stuff away in the tack room. She certainly had enough stuff: a jumping saddle, two general purpose saddles, showing bridle, cross country bridle, everyday bridle, 3 sets of brushing boots, 2 sets of polo wraps, a set of cross country boots... 3 winter turn out rugs, 2 fly sheets, 2 sweat sheets, various halters and lead ropes, a lunge line, martingales, a lunge whip, schooling whip and a couple of crops... her grooming kit, buckets and shampoo for bathing... plenty of saddle pads and numnah's, spare girths, spare bits... the list was endless! Dante was a very spoiled horse.
She took about 15 minutes to put it all away, grabbed her grooming kit and wandered back over to Dante, who she could hear calling and shifting around. She slipped back into the stall, and he immediatly calmed down. She removed his travel boots and tail bandage, and then began to groom him, talking to him all the while.
